3 to 4 Months: Milestone Moments: Baby's Growing Curiosity

Your baby now recognizes the faces of his caregivers, smiles, chuckles and is happy about many things in his environment. Development at a glance (3 to 4 months):

At 3 to 4 months of age, babies undergo a plethora of new developments as they continue to explore their skills and behavior. Here are some important milestones and developments typical for babies this age:

  • Motor skills: Babies become stronger and more dexterous during this time. Many can hold their head longer and turn from their stomach to their back and vice versa. Some may even make their first attempts to sit up while lying on their stomach.

  • Grasping and manipulating: Hand-eye coordination continues to improve, and babies can reach and hold objects more specifically. They also begin to move and explore objects between their fingers.

  • Communication: Babies become more and more active in their communication during this time. They may start making more sounds, such as squeaking, gurgling, and babbling. They will also begin to respond more to your voice and may try to imitate it.

  • Social Interaction: Babies will begin to be more interested in their surroundings and the people around them. They may smile when they see familiar faces and begin to interact with others through eye contact, smiles, and sounds.

  • Exploration of the environment: Babies become more and more curious about their surroundings. They can start exploring and examining toys and other objects around them. They will also begin to observe and respond to their surroundings more closely.

  • Sleep patterns: Your baby's sleep patterns may evolve, and many babies begin to sleep through longer periods. You may also develop more consistent sleep schedules and wake up less frequently during the night.

It is important to note that each baby develops individually and reaches milestones at their own pace.

The gripping ball

What?

The organic cotton grasping ball with integrated bell rattle was developed to support your baby's development. The 12 soft pads can serve as handles for your child and are therefore adapted to the size of baby hands.

Why?

By holding the ball, your baby's hand muscles are strengthened and their eyesight is trained. Handling the ball promotes gripping ability and dexterity, as well as eye-hand coordination. As soon as your child starts throwing the ball, he or she will be motivated to move, to get after the ball and to catch it, which will also train gross motor skills and activate autonomy and initiative.

How?

Place the grasping ball close to your baby. At first, your child will probably examine the ball extensively; the different fabric patterns and colors will fascinate them. In the next step, your child can take the ball in their hands. The pleasant feel of the gripping ball invites your child to feel the ball extensively. The integrated bell gives your child an additional exciting auditory stimulus. The ball will accompany you for many months as it can be used in a variety of ways and is very interesting for children thanks to its innovative design.

The gripping toy/teething ring “Leaf”

What?

Due to its material (food-grade silicone), the grasping toy/teething ring is particularly flexible, soft and break-proof, making it ideal for gently massaging the gums when your child begins to teethe. It is very easy to clean; you can either boil it or put it in the dishwasher.

Why?

The grasping toy is easy to grasp and hold, promoting hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. When your child starts teething, the grasping toy becomes a teether. Because it alleviates the pressure exerted by the small teeth, it also prepares your child for speaking and nerves for food textures.

How?

Give your child the grasping toy/teething ring and your child will gradually examine and explore the grasping toy extensively. Thanks to its child-friendly shape and low weight, your child will be able to hold the grasping toy easily and safely. When your child starts teething, this is also ideal as a teething ring and can be placed in the refrigerator before use to numb the unpleasant feeling.

Interlock discs

What?

The interlock discs made of FSC-certified wood are an absolute classic among Montessori materials and ideal as one of your baby's first toys.

Why?

Through targeted gripping, your child will continually develop their fine motor skills in a playful way, while eye-hand coordination is also promoted. The coordination of both hands is also trained when your child holds the discs

Switch hands back and forth. It will also be a great sense of achievement for your child when they manage to fit the slices together for the first time.

How?

The discs are exactly the right size for your baby's hands. Put the discs within reach of your child. The size encourages your child to explore the discs extensively (with their hands, with their mouth). Also, it will gradually begin to switch discs between the left and right hands. And so gradually bring the movement of the two hands together. You can always show him how to put them together, your child will do the same later.

The maracas rattle

He will explore the rattle extensively and will quickly understand that it can also make noises. Your baby finds noises particularly interesting at this age, the Maracas rattle will attract your child's attention and inspire him.

Why?

Early musical education can take place here. Your child's sense of hearing is stimulated by the audative stimulus.
